2026 PEUG 208 5H12 GT (2026)

So now I’ve had a few days with these hired 208 GT cars, this model is on my “Can I have one of those again next time please” list. Precise on the road, holds the line on bends. Gearbox smooth and positive. Fully petrol, the engine idles at 800 and red lines at about 6000 but seems less willing after about 5000. But 5000 is enough and there’s a lotta fun between 3000 and 5000 so confident on overtakes. Pedals a bit close together, that’s a Peugeot speciality. Peugeot 205 and 206 had that. Heater and aircon controls OK. So not a bad one.

Peugeot’s type 5H12, 3-cylinder 1.2l petrol engine is inherently smooth on vibration as it’s a triple cylinder. Sport mode helps low down in the rev range bringing 2000 to 3000 in to the fun range. No great improvement above 5000 but I did drive it to 5600 revs without complaint from the engine.
Brakes progressive and true.
Parking good although large pillars and passenger seat mean you need to rely on the cameras and sensors: the sensors have a useful range and sensitivity. The cameras are placed well and there’s a synthesised overhead view.
Driver seat comfortable and has the back massage feature.
Aircon/heater OK and drivers aids as usual, unfortunately. At least one collision warning was regarding a pedestrian centre-bollard on a bend. But it doesn’t warn of close encounters on a narrow A road with white lines; maybe that’s good (not a distraction). At least it doesn’t take control and enforce an unnecessary emergency stop. All these false warnings are distracting.
Passengers reported the seat was good, ride was smooth although swinging on the corners, the suspension a bit hard.
