Charleston Farmhouse’s garden is a glorious Sussex garden, a little sister to Sissinghurst in Kent. The visitors complete the effect although to really recreate the atmosphere needs a long and presumably alcoholic picnic, leading to a shag in the long grass.
Charleston Farmhouse was the hedonistic haunt of the Bloomsbury group of artists; modern translation: “party house”, though much new work was also created there in the peaceful location under the South Downs. The house and garden are now lovingly curated by an independent foundation and host a number of events as well as exhibiting the substantial art collection.
