Hiking a section of the GR93, the Plateau de Dévoluy.
The dramatic Dévoluy plateau is almost another world, accessible only by passing a difficult gorge or some serious passes. The picturesque church of Mère-église dates from the XIth century and stands at the head of the gorge of the River Souloise; it could almost be in England, except for the dramatic scenery and the prolific insect life: I don’t remember seeing Praying Mantis on a path in Shropshire! And the dawn rising on the Grande Tête de l'Obiou (2790 m.).
