Hammersmith Bridge - south side

Hammermsith Reach viewed across the Thames

Sporty circular walk out to Barnes Bridge and round  the Thames path on the Surrey bank, passing around Hammersmith Bridge (which is closed, even to pedestrians or river traffic) and back home via Putney Bridge. I did this today as a training walk, so a couple of litres of water as weight in my rucksac, walking fast and with as few stops as possible.

Spring sunshine and warm air from the south plus the welcome confirmation that the vaccinations are working against Covid. with the news of Mr Boris’ Midsummer’s dream of life back to normal from 21st June made this a happy walk, an alternation on my lockdown programme of GYM/ROW - EAT - SLEEP - REPEAT in my gym at home.
I used to run the “Bridges” routes, that used to mean running one side of the Thames and crossing over at every bridge. Until you try it, you hardly believe how much length that adds to a route, not just length but various flights of steps that you wouldn’t take following one bank or the other. The same routes work for sport walks now that I’m no longer running, but they do take longer.
