Bitter sweet seeing again the flowers coming up in the Spring sunshine among the gravestones of Brompton Cemetery, West London. The deceased at peace are from earlier eras but the symbolism is as strong as ever: rebirth amongst the memorials to the dead.
The snowdrops and the daffodils, the roses with the holly, and (thinking maybe of sunnier climes and times) the pine trees above the stones.
All marking, now, the start of our second Spring living with Covid-19. Happily though, biology and biologists have given us vaccines so we can hope with justification for better times before too much longer.
But no social distancing in the cemetery: the gravestones are packed together like Grey Friars at silent prayer.
