Reached Scafell summit, 964 m. Car park 80 m. so quite a stomp. Not Scafell Pike. Took the interesting route via Lord’s Rake, lots of scrambling, a bit technical. Famous climbing pitches all around here. Rock hard and sharp. Only two others at summit. Down via a direct route including a scree descent below Rakes End gully. A big day; all about the climb, not the views.
Thanks to Samuel for leading. This is his description of the route:
From NT car park up river, right of Lingmell Beck, cross beck onto Brown Tongue, split right away from tourist route up to Hollow Stones (Woolworth Boulder).
Turn right at “Bob the Boulder” to ascend Lord’s Rake. At top of rake, turn left onto West Wall Traverse which leads in to Deep Ghyll and up to Scafell summit. Apparently it’s the 2nd highest at 964 m.
Back down Green How to Rakehead Crag and Rakes End gully.
Not yet high enough up the hill for this breakfast bar to taste good!
Note rucksacs at foot of gully for scale
View of Scafell Pike (977 m.), Mickeldore and Lord’s Rake
